Banana Yoshimoto “Amrita”

amritaIt is a story about a girl, Sakumi, who is trying to find herself in a horrendous disorder: memory loss due to a fall, grief of the death of a younger sister, complicated relationship and life in a big untraditional family of Sakumi’s mother, a telepathic younger brother, a cousin and her mother’s childhood friend.  Not exactly an easiest task to do.

This is easy and delightful reading. Author herself has said that while rereading over she realized how naïve the story is. But the theme of this book is simple. The author is trying to express the idea that regardless of all the amazing or devastating events that happen to each of us, there will always be the never-ending cycle of daily life.
